So, Why Are We Here?

Introducing myself, Tim, and my wife, Anna, an eye surgeon who embarked on a 16-month, three country working holiday and continue to do overseas work to this day.

My name’s Tim. I’m a freelance writer and former ESL teacher from Melbourne, Australia, who taught in Daejeon, Korea for six months in 2007 and, until February, 2015, had taught in Singapore for seven years.
My wife, Anna (above, doing volunteer work in Cambodia), is an ophthalmologist. Between March, 2015 and July 2016 we spent a month in Pondicherry, India, three months in Bonn, Germany, and 12 months in New York City before returning to Singapore, all for training and work placements for her.

The original concept behind starting this blog was to accompany Anna and create a guide from first-hand experience for eye doctors who want to do mission work and were considering going overseas to volunteer or partake in training, but weren’t sure what they were getting themselves into. I did my best to keep up my end of the deal and have even continued writing now that we’re back in Singapore, but there is one problem; I have a pretty severe phobia of anything medical.

The other reason I wanted to write this blog and continue to do so to this day is that I suffer from epilepsy and have a terrible memory, therefore I figured that this would be a great way to help me remember this trip, as well as subsequent adventures that continue to arise and anything else I’d like to remember.

I’m not particularly technically-minded and have no formal writing qualifications, thus I just taught myself this blogging deal from scratch so some of the earlier posts may seem a little amateurish, but I hope you enjoy it all anyway.
